Denel Land Systems Development of electronic hardware and software

The scope of work for Denel Land Systems included the following:

Eskom Integrated Security System Upgrade

Design, integrate and test Eskom’s integrated access control system on all strategic sites, including power plants:

  • Design and testing of CCTV system around the site perimeter and internal site locations as per Eskom requirements.

Eskom Task 614: Microgrid system design

Updating of Eskom’s design for a microgrid RT&D:

  • Position and orientation of the PV panels, cables and circuit breakers used, batteries installation and cooling thereof, Diesel Alternator installation and control hardware, inverter installation and cooling etc.
  • Prepare a review of the state of the art of micro grid system architectures, as reference for comparison with the ESKOM micro grid system.
  • Analyse and document system architecture.
  • Analyse and document the system design in terms of the dimensioning of the various components, such as cables, PV panel, Diesel Alternator, batteries, power electronics such as inverters and PV regulators, and circuit breakers.
  • Analyse and document the system operational control philosophy.
Eskom Task 551: Maintenance Planning

Updating of Eskom’s maintenance planning is a key Eskom project. The scope includes:

  • To create new Plant Maintenance activities
  • To revise an existing Plant Maintenance activities
  • Support outages site teams with best practices to achieve schedule excellence
  • Institute new and revised outage planning processes/procedures through training/ mentoring and simulation set ups.
  • Verify Standard Maintenance Procedures for new work utilise if applicable.
  • Compile work packages by conducting field inspections where required for new work and submit for approval.
Eskom Task 587: Mechanical and Civil Engineering Kriel Power Station
  • Optimise the performance of allocated plant
  • Ensure that the projects/modifications are delivered within the financial/cost and time frame requirements of the department while ensuring that agreed quality standards and scope of work are achieved.
  • Development of effective and sound maintenance strategies and effectiveness evaluation of those strategies to ensure high plant integrity, availability and reliability.
  • Prepare detailed scope of work for inspections and repairs to be carried out during boiler planned outages and monitor the technical aspects of such work during outages
  • Assist maintenance personnel in preparing detailed specifications and scope of work for tender purposes and do technical evaluation of those tenders
  • Perform plant audit and provide report highlighting all risky areas
  • Conduct root cause analyses (RCA’s) on plant failure incidents for problem diagnosis and ensure that all corrective actions that came out of the RCA’s are implemented and re-occurrence prevented.
Eskom Task 372: Outage Management Planning on all of Eskom’s coal fired power stations
  • The scope of Work is to provide Outage Management Planning on Primavera to Outage Management during the entire outage cycle from planning phase to execution phase.
  • Resources are deployed to Eskom’s Coal Power Stations
  • Ario has deployed 15 Senior planners with expert knowledge of Primavera P6, proficiency on Microsoft Projects and a good understanding of maintenance and project and outage planning

  • Documents include PCM’s, policies, procedures, guidelines, governance documents, forms and templates. Ario performs operational (training) work to enable the business to adopt and implement the required documentation and PCMs.
  • The work was done in line with the Back to Basics Project Tools Programme deliverables.

  • Drawing up a specification in conjunction with Cape Concrete for the manufacture of the new container, as well as a design file;
  • This is an ongoing project the qualification testing of the drum with assistance from people on site is still to be performed; and
  • Compilation of the SAR for the new container.
